Blood sugar levels are relative to how much sugar is absorbed from carbohydrates digested in the small intestine and those produced by the liver.
Insulin causes the liver to store glucose as glycogen. When blood glucose concentration is lower than the normal range, glycogen is broken down into blood glucose. Glycogen is then released into the blood. At the same time the liver begins continues to produce more glucose.
